Life Saving Medal
On January 6, 2009 at approximately 2:52pm Sergeant Tony Schiefelbein and Deputy Bonner Cordova were dispatched to Sun County Meadows in Uncorporated Elbert County on report of a woman in labor. Upon their arrival, Sergeant Schiefelbein and Deputy Cordova found a 27 year old female just inside the residence on her hands and knees. The woman told deputies that she was eight months pregnant and had been in labor for approximately one hour. Deputies quickly discovered that the baby was crowning and medical personnel was not yet on scene.
At approximately 3:04pm, twelve short minutes after their arrival, Sergeant Schiefelbein and Deputy Cordova delivered Serenity Brown in the front room of her parent's home. Both quickly realized that the infant was not breathing. Deputies used a turkey baster in attempts to clear the air way of the infant. Deputy Cordova then began CPR on the infant and a short time later the child took her first breath. The two diligent Sheriff’s Deputies showed up to do what they do every day, help someone in need. And in the process they saved a little girls life.
Sergeant Tony Schiefelbein and Deputy Bonner Cordova are hereby awarded the Sheriff's Life Saving Medal on the 13th Day of January, 2009, for their heroic efforts resulting in a second chance at life for an infant and her parents.
