Inmate Work Detail

Elbert County Sheriff's Office begins inmate work detail.

On June 3, 2009, Elbert County Sheriff William Frangis, began the first day of planned "inmate work details" within Elbert County. These details often referred to as "chain gangs" (but without the chains) will be continued as useful public service to the citizens of Elbert County.

County inmates currently incarcerated and serving a court ordered sentence will be transported to selected areas within the county to conduct clean-up and minor maintenance services under the supervision of Deputy's of the Sheriffs Office.

This first day of the operation resulted in a "truck load of trash", according to jail supervisor Sergeant David Carter. Furthermore, the inmates cleaned the grandstand area of Casey Jones Park, in preparation for the Elizabeth Stampede event this upcoming weekend.

Sheriff Frangis stated that "citizens of our county were very receptive and appreciative" of the work detail. Citizens' can be assured that when they are working, the inmate maintenance crews will have officers present and that the areas are signed and noticeable to our citizens during these work details.
