Yesterday evening, April 19th, deputies from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office took 23 year old James Mamich
into custody, following an investigation into a shooting that occurred on Monday, at a residence in the 36000
block of County Road 17, just north of the town of Elizabeth.
On Monday afternoon, a shooting was reported at approximately 4 pm. The homeowner advised Dispatch that
she had shot her son, James Mamich. Mamich was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Investigators determined that Mamich, who does not reside at the location, broke into the house and
assaulted his mother, who then shot him when she feared for her life.
Mamich was released from the hospital on Thursday evening and is being held on numerous charges, to
include 1st degree burglary, Criminal Mischief and Assault. The case is being reviewed by the District
Attorney, and no charges have been filed against the homeowner.
Criminal charges are a formal accusation of wrongdoing. All individuals are considered innocent until proven
guilty in court.
